Leon Lebeniste

Leon Lebiniste’s new 3-storey, 28,500 SF facility houses the fine furnishing and woodworking company’s manufacturing facility. Designed to showcase wood, the structure incorporates CLT floors, mezzanine and a roof over a steel post and beam support system. Leon Lebiniste occupies the first two levels, with the main manufacturing on the ground floor, along with a paint shop, staff washrooms, and the supporting mechanical, electrical, and telecommunication rooms. Offices and design studios are located on the mezzanine level, which connects to a second industrial space by way of a mezzanine bridge. The third level contains leased commercial spaces, a cafe, and an outdoor rooftop patio surrounded by an extensive green roof system.

Kindred was engaged early in pre-construction to work with the owner and consultants, key suppliers and trades to set the project up for success. This allowed construction to begin earlier than typically would be expected, and the use of mass timber and prefabrication permitted a fast-track schedule approach. Materials were delivered to the site using “just-in-time delivery” to save storage costs and ensure the wood was protected.
